Walsh Attorneys Contribute New Jersey Chapter to IADC Damages Compendium 1920 1080 Walsh Pizzi O'Reilly Falanga LLP

Walsh Pizzi O’Reilly Falanga LLP founding partner Peter J. Pizzi and associate Alex Storzillo authored the New Jersey chapter of the Damages Compendium – East of the Mississippi, published in Volume 93, No. 1 of the Defense Counsel Journal, a peer-reviewed law journal published three times a year by the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC).

The Damages Compendium provides a comprehensive, state-by-state analysis of damages law across jurisdictions east of the Mississippi River, serving as a valuable resource for attorneys, insurers and business leaders evaluating litigation and exposure risks. The publication examines the evolving standards governing commercial litigation, tort claims, contract disputes and statutory remedies, while highlighting the key developments in compensatory, consequential, punitive and liquidated damages.

In their New Jersey contribution, Peter and Alex provide an in-depth overview of the state’s damages framework, addressing the legal principles that govern recoverable damages in business and civil litigation. The chapter analyzes New Jersey law concerning compensatory and punitive damages, mitigation requirements, prejudgment interest, contractual limitations on damages and other significant issues that frequently arise in complex commercial disputes. As a New Jersey Supreme Court Certified Civil Trial Attorney with decades of experience handling complex commercial and business disputes, Peter brings a practical litigation perspective to the analysis, while Alex contributes insight drawn from his growing commercial litigation and labor & employment practice.

The publication offers practitioners a practical reference for understanding how New Jersey courts assess damages and provides valuable insight for businesses operating an increasingly complex litigation environment.
