NEWARK, NJ, December 18, 2020 – Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (VLJ), New Jersey’s leading pro bono legal provider, recently named Walsh Partner Sydney J. Darling as December 2020’s Volunteer of the Month.

As a regular volunteer at VLJ’s Debt Relief Legal Clinic, Darling assists low-income individuals in financial distress who need help dealing with creditors or who are considering filing for bankruptcy. The economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis has hit low-income individuals especially hard, and Sydney has dedicated herself to helping as many people as she can navigate challenging financial situations. VLJ’s mission is to improve the lives of economically disadvantaged adults, children and families in New Jersey by empowering them with tools, advice and pro bono representation with the goal of securing fair and equal treatment within the legal system.

“Most of the VLJ clients I meet with have been disadvantaged by the legal system due to lack of education and/or economic means, Darling says. “I am grateful to be able to make a small impact for the better by working with VLJ and offering pro bono services to individual clients who could not otherwise afford counsel. It’s part of the social responsibility that comes with being a lawyer.”

At Walsh, Sydney focuses her practice on litigation and transactional matters in the areas of business and commercial law, financial services, risk management, insolvency and real estate.
